Hennepin County, Minnesota Gets New CIO

The Hennepin County Board of Commissioners has appointed Glen Gilbertson to the role of Chief Information Officer.

Gilbertson has been “acting” CIO since the end of last year, after he was appointed to be the interim replacement for outgoing CIO Jerry Driessen. Driessen left to become CIO for San Jose, California.

Gilbertson has been CTO for Hennepin County since 2011. In that role, he oversaw how technology investments were implemented. He also coordinated with multiple jurisdictions and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to address cybersecurity and disaster recovery concerns related to Superbowl 52. Gilbertson again worked with DHS on a cyber-resiliency review of Hennepin County elections systems.

In his new role, Gilbertson will be tasked with overseeing information security for Minnesota’s largest local government and will coordinate with technology officials and frontline workers to ensure resiliency, efficiency and capital improvements in technology government wide.
