Springfield, Ohio and Clark County, Ohio have tapped Motorola Solutions for upgrades to its 911 system. Motorola will provide command center software to take incoming 911 calls, share and manage critical incident information, and communicate across agencies to coordinate a response.
The solution set will include improved call flows through 911 dispatch as well as computer aided dispatch which allows dispatchers to share information across agencies as necessary. Motorola will also provide two-way radios that communicate over the ASTRO 25 land-mobile radio (LMR) system. ASTRO 25 will work with Ohio MARCS, a first responder communications platform provided by Motorola Solutions statewide.
“We are excited to have all Clark County agencies join the statewide MARCS system,” said Mike Combs, Clark County 911 coordinator. “Being on the same network is another step toward direct and efficient communication among first responders in our state.”
The agreement with Springfield and Clark County comes on the heels of news that Motorola Solutions has acquired Avtech, a provider of advanced dispatch solutions for public safety and commercial customers.
Based in South Carolina, Avtec provides voice over internet protocol (VoIP) dispatch services over land mobile radio (LMR) and broadband networks. The services are used by public safety organizations, rail, airlines, and energy companies.
Motorola Solutions was already using Avtec services as part of its partner network. The acquisition will make Avtec radio and dispatch a native part of the toolkit for projects like the one underway in Ohio. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The acquisition is the latest in a string of deals from Motorola Solutions. The company recently acquired VaaS International which provides license plate reading technology. Last year, Motorola also bought Avigilon, which designs, develops and manufactures advanced security surveillance solutions, including video analytics, network video management software and hardware, surveillance cameras, and access control solutions.
