ADTRAN is teaming up with IoT.nxt on a new platform for IoT device data.
The IoT industry operates on multiple protocols that control many different types of devices. IoT.nxt aggregates those protocols into a single cloud-based system that turns the data into usable information. ADTRAN’s broad portfolio of software and hardware platforms will be able to support the IoT data so that network operators can understand and monitor devices on their networks.
Based on OpenWrt, the ADTRAN SmartOS Operating System is fully chipset-agnostic and also supports third-party software applications to enhance solution integrations. SmartOS currently operates on the top five hardware vendor chipsets and numerous network technologies.
ADTRAN says that by adding support for IoT data, SmartOS will unlock the potential for better application development and integration of new services for enterprises and carriers.
ADTRAN’s partnership with IoT.nxt comes alongside work that the networking provider is doing on 5G deployments. ADTRAN has added mmWave mech and point-to-multipoint solutions to its fixed wireless access portfolio which will support IoT, smart cities, connected cars and ultra-high speed broadband by connecting multiple nodes wirelessly.
ADTRAN’s cloud-based software-defined networking platform is designed to continue adding service capabilities that can be managed through a single platform even while the network itself is distributed across various device and service types.
Both additions to ADTRAN’s portfolio were unveiled at Mobile World Congress currently underway in Barcelona.
