Verizon has launched a software defined solution branch for state and local governments. The secure branch is set up for organizations with multiple locations. Once in place, it keeps the network secure and accessible through a combination of simplified management, a software defined wide area network (SD-WAN) solution, and security.

The solution is offered through Versa Networks, a software defined networking vendor. Versa’s technology supports collaboration, video and cloud-based service performance through SD-WAN. Verizon’s 4G network will serve as a backup.

The service will have security through Verizon’s comprehensive threat management and end-to-end network encryption.

Users can sign up for the solution through Verizon’s Enterprise Center.

As CivSource has previously reported, many providers are moving to software defined networking in an effort to manage both legacy and new systems with an easier to use software layer over the top. Verizon’s effort is the latest in a growing competition for the easiest to use networking solution.
