New York City is officially on the hunt for a new Chief Analytics Officer, according to a job description posted to LinkedIn today. The search follows an announcement in May, first reported by City & State New York, that the current Chief Analytics Officer Amen Ra Mashariki was taking a role at geospatial company Esri.

Mashariki, who has been with New York City since 2014, was previously a White House technology fellow and CTO at the Office of Management and Budget.

The Chief Analytics Officer role is part of the Mayor’s Office of Data Analytics (MODA) and is housed within the Mayor’s Office of Operations. MODA is the principal unit charged with aggregating, analyzing and synthesizing data from across agencies and external sources. Some of the work at MODA makes its way into public-facing projects and other analysis goes into helping city government make better decisions.

According to the job description, the Mayor’s office is looking for someone who can help develop MODA’s core team of eight data scientists and project managers. The Chief Analytics Officer will also serve as City’s Chief Open Platform Officer and be tasked with overseeing and improving DataBridge – a citywide data platform.
