Silver Springs Networks Burns Joins Accela

Jim Burns, former CFO at Redwood City, California-based Silver Spring Networks is leaving the company to join San Ramon, California-based Accela. Accela provides a platform of cloud-based productivity and civic engagement solutions aimed at state and local government. Burns will serve as CFO for Accela.

Prior to joining SSNI, Burns held executive positions at Hewlett Packard for two decades, including CFO of HP’s $60 billion Enterprise Business, COO of HP’s $26 billion Services Business, as well as Vice President of HP’s Global Investor Relations. Silver Spring Networks has a specialty in IoT and smart city services.

In his role at Accela, Burns will have a similar remit as previous roles. In addition to Accela, Burns currently sits on the Advisory Board for the Leavey School of Business and Ignatian Center at his alma mater, Santa Clara University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Commerce.

“Jim brings extensive financial and operational experience in scaling large, public software enterprises. We look forward to working with Jim as we embark on our next phase of growth,” said Maury Blackman, Accela’s President and CEO.

Accela has been on a rapid growth curve since it received a more than $143 million cash infusion from private equity firm Bregal Sagemount. In March, the company announced a partnership with DocuSign to add electronic signature capability to its suite of services for government.
