King County, Washington is upgrading its public safety systems and has tapped Motorola Solutions for the work. The $112 million contract will cover a 55-month project.

The upgrades will be to the Puget Sound Emergency Radio Network (PSERN) infrastructure to bring King County first responders ASTRO® 25 digital radio technology.

The 55-month upgrade leverages new transmission towers to elevate the system’s reliability. King County voters this spring authorized $273 million in overall spending to fortify the network’s structure, update its technology to modern standards, and allow its first responders to communicate more effectively with each other and with agencies outside the county.

New transmission towers and equipment will elevate PSERN to Motorola Solutions Project 25 (P25) national interoperable standards.

The proposed project team will manage service and upgrade activities for all components of the system, including radio infrastructure, call logging systems, video surveillance, consoles and subscribers.

The project will cover 39 cities and 2 million residents.
