Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker is shaking up the board of Massachusetts Health Connector after the wheels basically fell off with the roll out of healthcare.gov.

Massachusetts’ once vaunted health insurance marketplace worked generally successfully until the state tried to make compliance changes to bring the exchange in-line with the ACA.  As CivSource reported, that debacle ended up with CGI Group being removed from its duties on the exchange.

Shortly after that, comments emerged from MIT professor Jonathan Gruber in his role as one of the chief architects of the ACA that were offensive and raised additional policy questions about the bill.

Yesterday, Governor Baker demanded the resignations of Gruber, George Gonser Jr., John M. Bertko, and Rick Jakious from the state board.

In his letter, the Governor expressed a desire to change the guard as his new administration comes in. Baker will now have control of the board.  The Boston Herald is reporting that two seats already include Baker administration officials – Marylou Sudders, Baker’s secretary of health and human services is the board chairwoman and board member Kristen Lepore is also secretary of administration and finance.
