Residents in Iola and Scandinavia, Wisconsin will now see new broadband access following successful completion of that leg of statewide broadband expansion. TDS Telecom was the service provider on the work.
Construction on the stimulus-funded project will continue and should wrap up before the end of February. Once complete, about 460 area residents will have access to a high-speed Internet connection. More than nine miles of fiber optics cabling is being installed and nine cabinets (which protect the advanced network electronics) are being placed throughout TDS’ Scandinavia Telephone Company, to provide high-speed Internet access to more residents.
TDS is working on some 44 projects in all, funded by federal stimulus grants aimed at expanding nationwide access to broadband. The company also announced that it has connected 10,000 additional residents through stimulus projects in addition to the Wisconsin work.
The company is also working on projects in Alabama and Colorado that are nearing completion.
