Watchdog group the Sunlight Foundation will be offering civic minded startups and developers a chance at “OpenGov Grants.” The grant program will offer awards to successful applicants on a rolling basis throughout the year. The initiative was announced at the Personal Democracy Forum in New York City, on Friday.

The grant program will specifically focus on helping developers build something that will improve civic life, through government transparency. One time grants will be offered in award amounts ranging from $5000-10,000.

“We will do our best to help promote our awardees, we have a track record of doing that from past programs,” said Gabriela Schneider, Communications Director at the Sunlight Foundation during the announcement.

The Sunlight Foundation has previously provided seed funding to a select group of civic startups, this program marks the next phase of that work by creating a continuous program. The organization has created this video about the program and full information is available on the Sunlight Foundation website.
