Tyler Technologies acquires EnerGov Solutions

Tyler Technologies – the nation’s largest software company focused solely on the public sector – has acquired EnerGov Solutions, whose software helps municipalities and counties manage permitting, land management, licensing and regulatory processes. EnerGov, based near Atlanta, is well known in the public-sector market and their software complements the product suite of Tyler’s Local Government Division, especially in the land management and community development areas.

As a result of the transaction, Tyler broadens its portfolio of citizen services software solutions by complementing its Munis® and Incode® product suites with EnerGov’s land use and community development solutions. EnerGov was selected in 2009 as the Esri® Worldwide Partner of the Year and received the 2012 Esri Mobile App of the Year Award. EnerGov has clients in 31 states, the company was founded in 2002 and is located in Atlanta.

“We have been looking for the past four years for an acquisition like this – it was a pretty classic build or buy acquisition for us. Before this year, we had pretty much decided we were going to build our own solution, but EnerGov had everything we were looking for,” explains Brett Cate, president of Tyler’s Local Government Division in an interview with CivSource.

EnerGov’s founding partners and key management will join Tyler, along with the company’s entire employee base; and, during the coming months, EnerGov’s technology and services offerings will be integrated into Tyler operations and branding. “This was not an exit strategy for anyone at EnerGov, and we have a track record at Tyler of keeping everyone on board,” Cate notes. Tyler’s client base includes more than 10,000 local government offices in all 50 states, Canada, the Caribbean and the United Kingdom.

“We plan to build on this platform and make a flagship product,” Cate said.
