The Colorado Statewide Internet Portal Authority awarded 24 local governments with grants totaling nearly $100,000 to increase the availability of online services, products and information in the state. The eGovernment Services Grants are designed to help local government offices migrate their services online and improve service delivery to their constituents.
The Statewide Internet Portal Authority (SIPA) created the grant program to encourage local governments to put more services and information online while also providing the necessary funding to start this process. The grant program was open to all Colorado governments including cities, counties and special districts. SIPA is now in its seventh year of providing grants to local governments. Most awards in this round are over $1000.
Grant winners will now be able to pay for access to a variety of online tools including Google Apps, GIS portals, telehealth programs and list-servs. Several cities are also starting open data initiatives, online job boards, online permitting applications and adding new E911 servers.
“SIPA understands how important it is to give people access to more information and services,” said state Sen. Bill Cadman, chairman of the SIPA Board of Directors. “These grants will allow local governments to use technology to deliver services directly to the homes of those they serve, which will make it easier to register for recreation classes, apply for jobs and receive medical consultations.”
