Virginia starts streaming transportation meetings online

Virginia has started streaming its transportation Boards and Commissions meetings live online. All public bodies in Virginia’s Transportation Secretariat that hold meetings at the DMV headquarters in Richmond will now be able to stream the proceedings online.

The initiative is part of the state’s open government plan by showing the full meeting instead of just posting minutes.

“Virginians interested in witnessing the important work that takes place during these meetings can log on to their laptops, PCs or smart phones for easy access,” stated Governor McDonnell. “Open government is better government. I am pleased that we are capitalizing on this technology to give even greater access to these public events.”

The initiative also ties into the state’s green planning by reducing reliance on paper minutes and public travel to meetings. The stream will be provided through Ustream and can be accessed at DMVNow. The first such broadcast was yesterday. For more information, citizens can visit the DMV now website.
