Lockheed develops open source, social media framework

Lockheed Martin has announced the release of a proprietary social media tool, using an open source software license. The platform is one of a growing number of offerings meant to tap the power of collaboration between employees, while creating a secure environment to share content using blogs and wikis.

California state portal gets social media facelift

The state of California launched a redesigned Web portal yesterday with social media-friendly and widget-ready interactive designs. According to State Chief Information Officer Teri Takai, the redesigned portal is meant to be a “one-stop destination” for the over six million visitors per month.

Deloitte Consulting continues their survey of young professionals in the workforce with a look at “Generation Y” employees in state government. In particular, the latest survey compares Gen Y workers in government with their private sector counterparts. The survey finds that Gen Yers are motivated by factors beyond monetary gain and that state governments have a tremendous opportunity to tap eager Gen Y talent to make government more responsive, collaborative and efficient.

Touted as an “online dialogue,” the Obama administration wants to know “what ideas, tools, and approaches can make Recovery.gov a place where the public can monitor the expenditure and the use of recovery funds?”
