Atlantis Computing has demonstrated its new solution for cloud-scale deployments of virtual servers such as databases, collaboration and mail servers this week at VMworld, currently underway in San Francisco, California. Atlantis also highlighted Atlantis ILIO Persistent Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) 4.1 and their other desktop optimization solutions that power large VDI deployments. The company is partnering with IBM to deliver some of these solutions to a wider audience.

The Atlantis ILIO software complements VDI solutions to cut VDI costs and to deliver a desktop that is faster and cheaper than a PC. Atlantis ILIO solutions are flexible, and de-risk the implementation and management of any VDI or virtualized XenApp project with automation for deployment, configuration, provisioning, high-availability, and disaster recovery.

Atlantis ILIO removes application performance bottlenecks of any Software-Defined Storage implementation. To do this, it delivers an abstraction layer that dissociates application performance from the class and location of storage used, while providing increased flexibility on how storage capacity is consumed.

Conventional implementations require large amounts of dedicated high performance, low latency storage. When deployed with Atlantis ILIO, Virtual Machines (VMs) consume less storage, run faster and can now use shared low-latency storage that can be located anywhere.

The company has also partnered with IBM to deliver integrated desktop virtualization solutions for Persistent VDI, Stateless VDI and Citrix XenApp based on the IBM PureFlex and Flex Systems platforms optimized with Atlantis ILIO software. The partnership is in response to customers that have been asking for integrated solutions that simplify the deployment of desktop virtualization and reduce their deployment risks.

The partnership leverages IBM servers, IBM v7000 disk-based storage, and IBM FlashSystem storage arrays to deliver optimal solutions for any customer with their chosen deployment model. According to the companies, the integrated solution consistently delivers high desktop performance as projects scale, while reducing storage requirements by up to 95%.
