Calix, a California based provider of broadband access systems and software has been on a roll lately picking up contract wins nationwide as states begin choosing vendors for stimulus funds awarded for broadband expansion. The company, which offers a unified access portfolio allows customers to deploy virtually any service over fiber- and copper-based network architectures. Recently, Calix has announced contract wins in Colorado, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, New Mexico, Tennessee and Texas.

Currently Calix has over 900 customers serving over 50 million subscriber lines in total. The company has been a popular choice among states flush with new broadband stimulus money. Focused on, “last mile” and “middle mile,” aggregate Calix vendor selections by Broadband Stimulus winners have now reached 58 different projects representing approximately $1.1 billion in Stimulus-related grants, loans, and private investment for plant engineering, materials, labor, and other costs, including access equipment.

The company is also working with the US Ignite program, sponsored by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy to demonstrate the potential of high-capacity broadband networks.
